Nov 19 WPS will be having a virtual classroom day for JH and HS students due to hosting the Lewis and Clark Conference One Acts. Jh and Hs students will not need to be at school this day but need to have their Chrome book and complete work for each class at home. Elementary will be in session and have a normal school day Jh and Hs students that are failing classes are highly encouraged to come to the school to get help from staff to get work completed. Academic assistance opportunity's will be located in the 7-8 academy classrooms for the Jh students. HS students needing academic assistance can report to Mr Johnson's and Albert's rooms. The teachers will be available from 7:45-3:45 in those rooms for academic assistance.

The attendance winners keep winning! A special thank you to the Whirling Thunder Wellness Center Program for allowing Miss Waugh's and Miss Mahin's attendance champions to celebrate their hard work in a fun, healthy, and safe environment. The students enjoyed their time at the indoor pool and many reported that it was an awesome time. WPS students and staff appreciate the collaboration and generosity that all the community programs have to offer. Another big thank you to our bus driver Mr. Tranmer for safely transporting the youth on the Winnebago Indians bus!

The bus route will be adding a stop at the newly renovated apartment complex across from the PD to their route for any new families who have moved recently. The bus will stop about 7:16am at the housing office and honk, please have your child ready.

WPS would like to clarify safety procedures in our building for everyone to be better aware of how we will address situations where students & staff safety is a concern. These are the definitions of procedures in place for a SECURE SESSION & LOCKDOWN SECURE SESSION A secure session involves a concern outside the school buildings that is not an immediate threat to the WPS students or staff. When a secure session is put into effect, all students are moved into the school buildings. Doors into the schools are secured, no-one is permitted to leave or enter the building for any reason. Indoor classes and activities are allowed to continue as normal, like on any other school day. Staff are trained to increase their situational awareness and account for students and adults. LOCKDOWN A lockdown occurs when an incident poses an immediate or potential threat to the school. When a lockdown is in effect, students are moved out of sight into a secure indoor location. Hallways are cleared, all classroom lights are turned off and doors are locked with students inside their secure location. Students and staff are to remain silent. All indoor classes & activities stop while a lockdown is in effect. Students & staff are not permitted to leave the classroom until the door is unlocked by law enforcement or school Administration where directions for the next steps will be provided.

WPS had gone into a Secure Session for a short period of time this morning due to a possible situation in the community. We have since gone back to a regular session. For your information a Secure Session is where NO ONE is allowed to enter or exit the WPS building where there is no immediate threat to anyone at WPS. Classes and teaching go on as normal. Please refrain from calling the school as everyone is safe and the all clear has been announced. Thank you.

Here are the dress up days WPS will be participating in this week to celebrate Native American Heritage Week: Monday (Braid Day)- Get braided up! Students, wear your hair in braids. Embracing cultural traditions and expressions of identity. Tuesday (Language Day)- Wear clothing that features words or phrases from our language or create signs with affirmations. Celebrating the beauty and diversity of Native languages. Wednesday (Ribbon Skirt/Shirt Day)- Wear traditional ribbon clothing that represents our heritage. Honoring our roots through attire. Thursday (Native/Community Pride Day)- Wear T-shirts with Native/BAGO pride and/or all-out Native prints. Dress in a way that represents community and togetherness. Expressing our pride in our heritage and recognizing the strength in our community. Friday (Rock Your Mocs Day)-Wear your moccasins or shoes that represent our culture. Walking in the footsteps of our ancestors.

WPS will be having a blessing/ send off and pep rally for the football team starting at 10am on Nov 8th. Blessing will start at 10 followed by a highlight video then a pep rally. The team will depart the WPS parking lot at 11:30am and head North on 77 toward Vermillion. Line the highway to show your support for the football team. WPS will also be having a 1pm dismissal also.
