Parents/Students,
We hope everyone is enjoying the holiday break and staying warm. Winnebago Public Schools wanted to inform everyone that we will be implementing a new district-wide policy for student cell phones. Starting January 4th, 2023, Winnebago Schools will be using the following Zero Tolerance Policy for Cell Phone Discipline in an effort to minimize distractions to the educational process. Countless teacher and administrator hours are wasted daily dealing with issues stemming from cell phone discipline. While most schools across the country are dealing with the cell phones disrupting the educational process for students, Winnebago Schools feels like we need to address this problem immediately. The Winnebago School Board has put this Zero Tolerance Cell Phone Discipline Policy in place starting in January, and will be further engaging the students, staff, and community about creating a cell phone free school environment for the 2023-2024 school year. For the remainder of the 2022-2023 school year, Winnebago Schools will use the following policy to deal with cell phone discipline:
Winnebago Cell Phone Discipline Policy
1st Offense: Phone taken for the day, parents or guardian called
1st Offense w/ Student Defiance: 1-day out-of-school suspension, parents or guardian called
2nd Offense: 2 Days out-of-school suspension, parents or guardian called
3rd Offense: 3 Days out-of-school suspension w/ in-person parent conference before return to school
4th Offense: 3 Days out-of-school suspension w/ in-person parent conference before return to school
5th Offense: 5 Days out-of-school suspension w/ consideration for expulsion
As always, you may still contact the school if you need to get in contact with your child, and they are welcome to use the school phone to contact you. We really appreciate your help in trying to create a distraction free learning environment, so that Winnebago Public Schools can provide the best education possible to your child. If you have any questions, feel free to contact us at 402-878-2224.
