The Winnebago Lady Indians are currently on a three game winning streak with an overall W-L ratio of 4-5. They recently finished a tournament in Winnebago where they went 2-1, losing the first match against long time rival Omaha Nation and winning the next two against Santee and Walthill.
Before the tournament, the Lady Indians had only played two other games. One against Walthill on the 6th and another against Ponca on the 11th. They beat the Walthill Blujays in all three sets played, resulting in scores of 25-9, 25-15, and 25-15. During the game, Savannah Fierro served up a total of 9 aces and Kiana Lewis laid 4 kills on Walthill.
The following Tuesday, they played the Ponca Indians and lost. The scores were close to the previous match, but were in favor of the opposing team. Jean Parker-Morris had 5 kills and 6 blocks, while Tia Yellowthunder had 5 digs.
During the Winnebago tournament, the team had 37 kills, 39 aces, 13 blocks, and 40 digs. Tia Yellowthunder had 4 aces against Walthill, 9 aces against Santee and 5 aces against Macy. For Blocks, Natasha Deal had 5, Alex Neff had 5, Jean Parker-Morris had 7, Kiylista Harden had 3 and Jaidan Payer had 4. They finished 2nd in the tournament.
Next on the schedule for the Lady Indians were the 9-2 Omaha Nation Chiefs, again. They played on the 18th and won 3-1 after playing 4 sets. Both Tia Yellowthunder and After that, they play Emerson and Lyons in a triangular. That will be the 20th. Then they play in the Elkhorn Valley Tournament on the 22nd. When asked about the future of the team, Head Coach, Jade Farmer, said, “I have a very talented group of girls this year and as long as we can play hard and play as a team we will have a good season.” Here’s to having a good season.
