Meet Our New Teachers at WPS!

Savannah Kahle
My name is Savannah Kahle, and I will be teaching first grade Special Education. I am from Minden Nebraska originally and moved to Wayne to attend Wayne State College. I have three older siblings and eight nieces and nephews, I love being an Aunt! I thoroughly enjoy to travel when I can. I lived in New Zealand last year, and just got home in July 2019! My goal for this year is to have a positive and fun year full of learning and growth.

Lorena Fernandez
Hello, my name is Lorena Fernandez. I will be teaching 7th Grade Academy. I lived in California before coming to Nebraska 16 years ago. I graduated from Wayne State College. I am married and my son’s name is Randy. I am an activist against human trafficking and I love photography. Some of my goals for the year include building strong relationships with my students, parents, community and to learn as much as possible from their culture.

Tammy Mohnson
Hi my name is Tammy Mohnson, I am the new kindergarten Teacher. I grew up in Walthill Nebraska, but now live in Homer NE. I went to Wayne State College. I have 2 children, Candi and Scott and my 2 cats: Gabriela (Skinny Kitty) and Gracie. I am a certified yoga teacher with extra certifications in prenatal and kids yoga. Also I love to garden. My goal this year is to teach kindergarteners community, with the support of parents, school employees and students, and the Winnebago community.

Jared Garthoff
Hello! My name is Jared Garthoff. I am the new High School Band Teacher. I grew up in Early, IA and currently live in Coleridge,NE. I attended Wayne State College. I live with my wife Brittany, and my daughter Rory. I play in a Rock band in Omaha, and I study French Cooking in my free time. My goal this year is to make as much music as I can with my students.

Keagan Putnam
My name is Keagan Putnam. I am the new 6th grade teacher, assistant high school wrestling coach and also the head junior high wrestling coach. I grew up in Sgt. Bluff, Iowa and currently live in Sioux City now. I went to Morningside College. I live with my girlfriend Jayci and we have a boxer named Nyah. I have been to 1/3 of the United States, and I can do a standing backflip. My goal this year is to bring a positive and motivating attitude to the classroom everyday. Make sure students leave my class with a smile on their faces everyday.

Adri (Adrianna)Aleman
Hi all! My name is Adrianna. I am the new first grade teacher. I grew up in Norfolk and Stanton. Graduated from South Sioux City and now live in North Sioux City. I graduated from Wayne State College. I live with my boyfriend, Kyle and we have a dog (shiba inu) named Foxy. I am the oldest of eight siblings and I have been to Italy and Spain. My goal for this year is that I want to create a positive environment, so students are excited to come to my classroom everyday!

Jordyn Cerveny
My name is Jordyn Cerveny, I am the new fifth grade teacher this year! I grew up in the small town of Wilber, Nebraska which is located about an hour south of Lincoln, and now live in Ponca. I attended the University of Nebraska-Lincoln from where I received my degree in Elementary and Special Education. My parents names are Chris and Brenda; I have two brothers, Treven and Taylor, and a sister, Jadyn; I also have a two year old dog named Dixie. Two random facts you should know about me are: I have a twin sister (Jadyn) and I grew up on a small farm raising cattle. One goal for this year is to learn all I can about the culture and town of Winnebago. I want to be the best teacher I can be, and help my students reach their fullest potential! I’m looking forward to a great year!

Lucas Spooner
My name is Lucas Spooner, I am the new 7/8th grade social studies teacher. I grew up in Blair Nebraska. I attended Wayne State College, where I got my degree in 7-12 social studies with a coaching endorsement. I have three siblings, Joe, Liz, Danielle. I have one German Shepard named Dex. Two fun facts about me are that I worked as a meat cutter for a year, and I grew up on an acreage. My main goal of the year is to get involved in the community and learn all my students names. .

William Faeth
My name is William Faeth! I am the ⅞ grade special education teacher. I grew up in Fort Madison, Iowa. I attended Midland University. I don’t have any pets currently and I have one sister, fiance, and my parents are Rob and Janet Faeth. I am the fifth William in my family, and my shotgun sports team in college won a national championship. My goal this year is to make a difference in someone’s life.

Paige Meier
Hello! I am Paige Meier. I am the K-6 Varied teacher. I grew up in West Point, Nebraska. I went to Midland University. I have a Fiance, William. My parents are Matt and Joani Meier. I have two siblings Cash and Bridget. Finally, a dog named Jack. I played golf in college and I have a huge love for agriculture. One goal for the year is to help my students become the best they can be.

Sarah Erb
Hello, I am Sarah Erb! I am the 9-12 Social Studies teacher. I grew up in Creighton, NE, then went to the University of Nebraska-Lincoln where I received my degree in 7-12 Social Science education. My parents are Nancy Mackey and Richard Erb, and I have four siblings. I enjoy sports, I play slow pitch softball in the summer and I also play volleyball in my school’s alumni tournament every year. I am really looking forward to getting to know this community and growing relationships with my students.

Greg Pavlik
Hello to all! My name is Greg Pavlik and I am a 9-12 science teacher. This year I am teaching biology and anatomy & physiology. I completed my undergraduate degree at Wayne State College and completed my Master’s degree through the University of Nebraska – Lincoln. My wife Holly and I have five children, three of whom are married. We also have five grandchildren. In my spare time, I enjoy kayaking and fishing. I hope that I can help all of my students gain a greater appreciation of the biological sciences and provide the foundation for a possible career in science if that is the path they choose.

Lucia Castillo
My name is Lucia Castillo. I have been married for 39 years to my High School sweetheart. We have three children and 9 grandchildren. I love to be around my husband and family. We moved to South Sioux City from California 20 years ago. I enjoy attending church and reading the Bible and love my work. I obtained my Bachelor’s degree from the University of Nebraska-Lincoln with an endorsement in ESL and my Master’s from Wayne State College along with a certificate in Early Childhood.
