It’s fall again in Winnebago, Nebraska and football season is just around the corner. Adam James, the 11 year head coach of the Winnebago Indians football team, is very anxious about the 2018 season. His assistant coaches Adam Tranmer and Dusty Welsh have noticed the team, along with a few new freshman, has put in a lot of time and effort during the offseason.
This year’s team captains are Tj Frenchman and Tyrese Gorrin. Along with their leadership, and the graduates before them, they hope to create some momentum to spark a fire for football in Winnebago. Football in Winnebago doesn’t just give the youth a fun activity for the fall. According to Coach James, it also gives the kids opportunities and life lessons they can use beyond school. The football team, along with the coaches, dedicate time and energy not just physically but mentally and emotionally. They do everything together, not just a team, but as a family. The football community has come along way and with change in time comes change in performance and this years outlook seems to be promising.
This years most intense game, also the homecoming game, will go down on Oct. 5 against Omaha Nation. The two tribes have been going head to head in sports probably for over 100 years.. Who will win this years game? We will find out when the time comes to play with the pigskin. One more thing is this year’s football schedule.
