A Look Ahead: WPS Wrestling by Aiden Bear

As many of you may already know, the wrestling season is off to a later than usual start due to the COVID 19 pandemic. The Winnebago wrestling team wants the best chances of being able to have a wrestling season, so the practices need some safety precautions. Those practices include wearing face masks and having temperatures checked before every practice. Coach Keagan Putnam said,  “We need to take safety precautions everywhere we go in or out the wrestling room because if one of us gets sick we all get sick.” As the practices continue, more and more safety precautions need to be taken to have the best chance of having a wrestling season. Head Coach Adam Tranmer commented about some of the specific safety precautions. “Safety precautions such as having one partner at all times, sanitation after every practice, and temperature checks before practice should help ensure that we can all have a wrestling season.”  Right now, the team has three wrestlers who have opted for homebound education.  “it’s a bummer we have 3 wrestlers homebound,” Coach Tranmer added, “but we want the best chances of having a wrestling season.” The JV team is set to open their season on December 4th at the Nebraska City Invitational and the varsity team will open its season on December 5th at the Conestoga Cougar Classic. Good luck on a safe and successful season WPS coaches and wrestlers. A full match schedule can be found under the “athletics” tab on the district homepage.
